Our Philosophy

Our aim is to develop a culture of learning, hard work and hard training. We focus on teaching a complete and overall understanding of what makes each discipline work, enabling our students to understand the ‘why’ of each position. By building an understanding of the underlying principles and concepts of each martial art our students will be empowered with the freedom to then creatively develop their own style, and take charge of their own training.

We use the Ecological Dynamic methodology for skill development

Concepts | Task based games | Train the whole game, every day

Concepts

Each topic will be introduced using a key underlying concept of the area in focus. This gives a simple rule set or plan to follow which will enable the practitioner to understand the key aspects of the game.

Task based games

We use the constraint led approach to develop practices that allow our student to gain skill and experience in all areas of our sport, every session. Our sessions use task based games, randomised content, focussing of intention/attention and many other processes to ensure our students get a great workout and practical skill development.

FAQ's

The most important thing to remember on your first session is to have fun because regardless of your goals this is what will bring you back for years to come.

Combat sports can be high intensity activity, a typical lesson will consist of multiple task based games covering different concepts, positions and scenarios. On average you can expect to burn 1000 calories an hour, so bring a towel and plenty of water.

You can expect a hard working but fairly informal atmosphere during class. Sessions are interspersed with laughing and joking with friends one minute, and working hard on developing the skills to choke them out the next.

If you don’t have the uniform or equipment required for the session then don’t worry; a t-shirt that you don’t mind getting ripped and a pair of board shorts or tracksuit bottoms will be suitable. Just make sure there are no zips or buttons.

Martial arts are a tool to develop both physically and mentally. This means that you start the journey where you are today. Your fitness will improve as you train and there’s no need to put off attending your first class.
